2024 / Willow Creek District Syzygy

The bouquet of this blend is highly expressive, greeting you with dried rose petals and fresh dahlias before diving into a savory matrix of wild mushroom and rich sous-bois, or forest floor.  On your tongue, the high-toned flavors of vine-fresh huckleberry and juicy pluot play against the cool notes of wet slate and California chaparral.  The tannin structure is enveloping, forming a plush, broad-scale drape that coats your mouth from front to back, then slowly melts away to a mouth-watering finish.

The 2024 Syzygy was painstakingly curated with organic farming practices, small-batch winemaking and a reverence for site expression:

  • A blend of Decemil’s Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre blocks
  • Calcareous limestone and clay loam
  • Elevation range of 1,015 to 1,300 feet
  • 12 miles from the Pacific Ocean
  • Organically farmed vines

Vinification

  • A carefully crafted classic Grenache-forward GSM blend in a Châteauneuf-du-Pape style
  • A higher proportion of Grenache for this vintage, consistent with a southern Rhone blend
  • Blended at the 6-month mark of varietal aging
  • Aged for a total of 16 months in an average of 20% new oak
  • 66% Grenache, 21% Syrah, 13% Mourvèdre

Analysis

  • Alc. 14.9%
  • TA .59
  • PH 3.56
  • Cases 239

Reviews, Kind Words &

Accolades

Based on 66% Grenache, 21% Syrah, and 13% Mourvèdre, the 2024 Syzygy was fermented with 20-25% whole cluster and aged 16 months in 20% new French oak. It reveals lots of Bing cherries, sappy flowers, leather, and spicy incense nuances on the nose. It's medium-bodied on the palate, nicely balanced, with ripe, integrated tannins and a good balance in its richness and freshness. There are 239 cases. It should have 8-10 years of prime drinking. Drink 2026-2036.

A floral and red-fruited gsm blend with nice juicy acidity and gentle tannins. Medium- to full-bodied but with a weightlessness that makes it feel refreshing. Drink now.
