Wine Style & Philosophy

What types of wine does Decemil Wines produce?

Decemil Wines specializes exclusively in 100% Rhône varietals and traditional Rhône-style blends. Our portfolio highlights the power and elegance of grapes like Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Viognier, deeply rooted in the unique terroir of California's Central Coast.

Why does Decemil Wines focus on Rhône varietals?

The climate and soils of our selected vineyards perfectly mirror the rugged, sun-drenched hills of the Southern Rhône Valley in France. This allows us to craft bold, complex, and beautifully balanced Rhône-style blends that offer both rich fruit profiles and excellent aging potential. Explore our current releases on the Decemil Wines Collection Page.

Terroir & The Willow Creek District

Where are the grapes for Decemil Wines grown?

Our grapes are sourced from premium vineyards in Paso Robles, California. We place a heavy emphasis on the microclimates and distinct soils of the region's west side to ensure exceptional fruit concentration and structural complexity.

What makes the Willow Creek District AVA special for Decemil Wines?

The Willow Creek District AVA is a crucial sub-appellation for our winemaking because of its unique calcareous (chalky limestone) soils and extreme diurnal temperature swings. Located on the cooler west side of Paso Robles, the district benefits from heavy marine breezes traveling through the Templeton Gap. This unique combination offers distinct advantages for our Rhône grapes:

High Natural Acidity: The limestone soils and cool nights preserve the grapes' natural acidity, preventing the wines from becoming overly heavy.

Intense Flavor Complexity: A long growing season allows the fruit to develop deep, nuanced flavors while maintaining structural balance.

Mineral Character: The calcareous earth imparts a signature chalky texture and distinct minerality that defines the premium quality of Decemil Wines.

Where is the Decemil Wines tasting room located?
